2022 UKHC Speakers: Kev Sheldrake – The Science of Hypnotic Induction

Kev Sheldrake

The inimitable Kev Sheldrake is back this year at the UK Hypnosis Convention, he’ll be presenting “The Science of Hypnotic Induction: Using peer-reviewed studies to find the best and worst inductions.”

Hypnotic inductions have been used and improved upon since the days of James Braid. But what does academia have to say about them? Are they the gateway to a hypnotic state, or an unnecessary ritual that can be dispensed with? Do inductions have different purposes in performance, experimental, and clinical scenarios? What are the essential qualities of inductions, and what happens if you omit them? Kev will draw on academic literature to answer these questions.

Kev is a hacker, magician and hypnotist. He worked with Anthony Jacquin for many years as business partner, writer and producer at Head Hacking: a pioneering company that popularised street hypnosis through products and training, taught hypnosis to magicians, researched academic perspectives on the nature of suggestion, and ran the annual hypnosis conference “change | phenomena”. He is currently studying for a Master of Research degree in Psychological Methods, supervised by Prof Zoltan Dienes.
