Treating ‘Eco-Anxiety’: The Power of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Bill Sheates

Presented by

Dr Bill Sheate

Eco-anxiety is an overwhelming sense of impending environmental doom and a chronic fear for the future state of the planet and future generations.
I see the rising tide of ‘eco-anxiety’ now regularly within my clinic. Serendipitously, it brings together both my environmental and therapy expertise.

The presentation will cover:
  • Understanding eco-anxiety – Cognitive Behavioural and metacognitive models
  • Dysfunctional coping strategies – what behaviour maintains and enhances eco-anxiety?
  • The power of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and the ‘cognitive-behavioural’ approach

Dr Bill Sheate is an environmental policy academic (Reader, Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London) and a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist specialising in anxiety and stress in higher education (Imagination Therapy – www.imaginationtherapy.co.uk ). His London practice emphasises resilience skills training, as well as one-to-one therapy, for students, staff and others. Bill also teaches at the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, is a GHR Acknowledged Supervisor and runs a CBH Peer Support Group for UKCHH.
