Stage Hypnosis – Theory and Practice

Martin S Taylor

Presented by

Martin S Taylor

I shall be explaining my philosophy of stage hypnosis, and the mechanisms by which it works. I shall talk about the structure of a stage hypnosis act and how to make it entertaining, and I shall also talk about the mechanism of hypnosis as practised on stage – something which I hope will be useful to therapists as well as potential entertainers.

I became interested in hypnosis in 1980, and gave a lecture-demonstration at Imperial College in 1981. This was so successful I was invited back repeatedly. Word spread, and I have performed regularly (and, for the last 30 years, professionally) at numerous universities and schools. Eschewing the 'trance' model of stage hypnosis, I give a lecture-demo rather than a show, explaining to audiences that the effects are produced almost exclusively through suggestion, peer pressure, and obedience.
