Presented by
Peter Bryant
Could a debilitating trauma, such as a parent grieving the death of a child, a young person endlessly reliving a sexual assault, or a graphic incident that haunts a paramedic, be safely and empirically resolved in a matter of minutes? In this talk, Peter will share his work using EMDR blended with hypnotic phenomena to help combat years of trauma and assist patients in overcoming life’s most complex challenges. In completing over two thousand hours of EMDR therapy, Peter has distilled a straightforward approach, which he will demonstrate live and has assisted him in safely working with over a hundred clients experiencing high levels of PTSD to overcome their most challenging thoughts and experiences. While the nuances of working with trauma can never be taken for granted, Peter’s talk will showcase tools that are available to all clinicians. This talk is intended to inspire clinicians to be less intimidated when working with the darkest of presentations with their clients, utilising a framework built on compassion, understanding, acceptance and cooperation. This talk will also discuss client and practitioner safety, how to assess risk and suicidal intent, and how to recognise when you may be out of your depth or beyond your scope of competence (and what to do about it!).
Peter is a UKCP and BACP accredited hypno-psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. Since 2021, he has specialised in providing online trauma-focused therapy to NHS patients experiencing complex PTSD. Peter, originally trained as a musician (percussion), has completed randomised controlled trial research on binaural beats and pain perception and, in 2020, published a book called Crypto Profit, which is about successful high-risk investing and runs an investment company providing education, guidance and solutions for investing in cryptocurrencies.
